    How do I install ati driver

    Hello,

    I have an x300 radeon card. How do I install ati driver in kubuntu. I do not see the driver anywhere in the system. Where do I get it from? Any help will be really appreciated!

    Thanks

    Re: How do I install ati driver

    There are:

    opensource

    xserver-xorg-video-ati
    This driver for the X.Org X server (see xserver-xorg for a further description)
    provides support for the ATI Mach, Rage, Radeon, and FireGL series. It
    provides the 'atimisc', 'r128' and 'radeon' sub-drivers.

    Note that this is not the same as the ATI-provided, binary-only, 'fglrx'
    driver, which provides additional 3D functionality for some newer Radeon
    cards, but is not supported.

    This driver provides support for Mach, Rage, Rage128, Radeon, and most
    FireGL series ATI cards.

    xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd
    This package provides the driver for the Radeon r5xx and r6xx family of chipsets, including the X1550, X1300, X1550, X1600, FireGL V3300/V3350, FireMV 2250, X1800, FireGL V5300/V7200/V7300/V7350, X1300 XT, X1600, FireGL V3400/V5200 X1300, X1650, X1950 Pro/GT, X1650, X1900, X1950, FireStream 2U, HD 2900 XT, HD 2400 Pro/XT, HD 2600 Pro/XT, Mobility X1300, X1350, Mobility X1400, X1450, X2300, Mobility X1600, X1700, Mobility FireGL V5200, V5250, Mobility X1800, X1900, Mobility FireGL V7100, V7200, Mobility HD 2300, Mobility HD 2400, Mobility HD 2600, and Radeon X1200.

    Catalyst / fglrx

    xorg-driver-fglrx
    Video driver for the ATI Radeon and FireGL graphics accelerators.

    This version of the ATI driver officially supports:

    * FireGL: V8650, V8600, V7600, V7350, V7300, V7200, V7100,
    V5600, V5200, V5100, V5000, HD3870, HD3850, V3600, V3400,
    V3300, V3200, V3100, X3-256, X3, X2-256, Z1-128, T2-128,
    X1-128, X1-256p
    * FireMV: 2200 (Single card PCI-e configuration)
    * Mobility FireGL: V5000, T2
    * Mobility Radeon: X1800, X1600, X1400, X1300, X800, X700, X600, X300,
    X200, 9800, 9600, 9550, 9500
    * Radeon Xpress: 1200 series, 1100 series, 200 series
    * Radeon: HD2900, HD2600, HD2400, X1900, X1800, X1600, X1300, X850,
    X800, X700, X600, X550, X300, 9800, 9700, 9600, 9550, 9500

    ATI All-in-Wonder variants of the above cards/chips are also supported, but video capture is not.

    This package provides 2D display drivers and hardware accelerated OpenGL.

    Probably the easiest way is to use the Envy.

    Envy
    What is Envy?:

    "Envy" is an application for Ubuntu Linux and Debian written in Python and PyGTK which will:
    1) detect the model of your graphic card (only ATI and Nvidia cards are supported) and install the appropriate driver. However automatic detection can be overridden with the "Manual installation"
    2) install the right driver for your card and all the required dependencies
    3) configure the Xserver for you
    Envy is in the Hardy repositories.

      in the latest kubuntu (intrepid), your card will work automatically, 3d, video etc. using the open source driver.
