Using KDE 3.5.x my old Lexmark Optra E+ runs just fine after installing it from System Settings etc.
Using KDE 4.1.1 I just get an icon with a red cross on it, inviting to rescan for printer. I then get:
It seems the printer is there - but how to administer it? Sharing, for isntance?
