This is the third problem I'm having with Kubuntu. My graphics card, which is an integrated Intel 965 express chipset family, is not displayed when I look at the display configuration. Instead, it shows a "VEGA" graphics card(?). Whatever this is, it appears to be generic graphics, as some things (namely youtube) show up quite blurry at times. Again, is there a driver I need to download for this card to be picked up?

Re: Graphics card not shown
I had the exact same problem - Kubuntu doesn't seem to want to recognize the 965, so I changed my xorg.conf from VESA to 'intel'. That seemed to work a lot better - glxgears went from 200 to ~950.
[url=http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/download.html]This looks like something I'd avoid, but you can recompile the drivers from scratch.

Re: Graphics card not shown
There is nothing in my xorg.conf to change from "VESA" to "Intel". However, I decided to go to the monitor and display settings and change the card to Intel 965. Upon reboot, disaster struck. Linux would not run at all. In order to fix this, I had to go into recovery mode and reset the X-server. Linux is working again, but still with the Generic VESA driver setting. Am I missing a file or something? Or did I need to change another setting when I changed "VESA" to "Intel"?
As for the Update Kubuntu suggestion, I'm not so quick to try it, as I'm afraid that I might lose my configurations and such. I'll try it if nothing else seems to be working.
Here is my xorg.conf file without the programming notes at the top:

Re: Graphics card not shown
Check to see if you have the xserver-xorg-video-intel package installed.
xserver-xorg-video-intel
X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver
This package provides the driver for the Intel i8xx and i9xx family of chipsets, including i810, i815, i830, i845, i855, i865, i915, i945 and i965 series chips.
This package also provides an XvMC (XVideo Motion Compensation) driver for i810 and i815 chipsets.
More information about X.Org can be found at:
This package is built from the X.org xf86-video-intel driver module.Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Re: Graphics card not shown
I did, but it needed updating, so I did just that. Again. xorg.conf has nothing about my video card in it, so I once again decided to change my display settings...and again, Linux stopped working. I had to (again) reset the Xserver. I'll keep looking for other things that I might need to do or have.Sony Vaio VGN NR260E
Linux Kubuntu 9.04\Windoze 7 Professional

Sony Vaio VPCF1190X
Linux Kubuntu 10.04/Windoze 7 Home Premium

Linux user #478627

Listing two graphics controllers is not abnormal. My graphics chip is an Intel 945GM and my lspci | grep Graphics results in the following output:

Not sure if I did that post's instructions 100%, but it did not do anything. After I configure the xorg.conf, is there anything else I need to do? Re: Graphics card not shown (Possibly fixed; please verify)
EDIT: I believe I may a at least partially fixed the problem, although I am not entirely sure. The only things that seem to work now are a couple of 3D programs, and compiz no longer crashes. However, instead of being specific, my driver is now listed at simply "intel". I searched on the internet and found this xorg.conf:
