My elderly aunt (late 70's) has a dual boot system.
She recently asked me to upgrade it to hardy/8.04 - we initially tried the KDE4 remix, but there was a few oddities I couldn't work out.
So we then installed the "normal" (KDE3 version), which sorted most of the minor snags - except one big one.
She has an RX685 MFD, and while the install (on both occasions) picked up the printer section or if without any problems, the scanner stubbornly refuses to scan/be recognised.
I did a few things in the vain hope it might help i.e. install/update Xsane and have done as much digging around as I can think of (it seems that support for the RX685 is listed as "good").
The problem is, that I have no idea about where too start looking to try and sort this out.
Can anyone point me in the right direction ?
regards

p.s. Oh and yes she can still use the scanner section but has to boot into windows for that - I'm convinced that that's not necessary but how to "suss" it out ?? is the question.
