    no sound

    first off i would unfortunatly like to state that i am a newb. my friend walked me through the install over aim. I have done some stuff in konsole so i guess im not 100% newb. but anyway be super detailed please.

    now the problem... i have no sound i tried messing with all the sliders and options and stuff and nothing works. i opened up alsamixer in konsole and it said card: HDA Intel then chip: Realtek ALC885. If i plug headphones in the headphones work great. if anyone can point me in the right direction i would be greatfull.

    did u make sure the speakers are turned on , plugged in, etc..?

      sorry forgot to mention its a laptop an alienware mx15 to be exact.

        In alsamixer, what is listed under Master and PCM? This is what my settings reflect:

            ive tried everything with alsa and kmixer every option and slider. no luck tho

              When you boot from the LiveCD, do you have working sound? This is important. If you do, then you don't have a hardware conflict/problem. If you don't, then at least we are looking at either a hardware or a driver problem.

                at the grub esc prompt press esc before the countdown, if there is another kernel, boot into the older one, do u get sound?
