ATI x700 doesn't boot the XServer

Hello I recently installed Kubuntu 8.04 on my desktop, I have a X700 Saphire card and if I install the ATI graphics (I've tried more than one way), it wont get in the graphical interface, I't boots properly, but when it should apear the login screen, the screen goes all black, can someone help me out here please

try to reconfigure X11 to a lower screen resolution and ati or radeon driver.
