    External HDD

Hey crew, I'm for the first time in my life actually planning on buying an external HDD. I'm thinking hardware support likely won't be an issue, but I would like some recommendations. Anyone have something in the 500 gb+ range that they'd recommend?

Of course, that does beg to ask:
does ext3 support 1 tb volumes?

    Size limits
ext3 has a maximum size for both individual files and the entire filesystem. For the filesystem as a whole that limit is 2**31-1 blocks. Both limits are dependent on the block size of the filesystem; the following chart summarizes the limits[12]:

    Code:
[b]Block size Max file size Max filesystem size[/b]
    1KiB 16GiB <2TiB
    2KiB 256GiB <4TiB
    4KiB 2TiB <8TiB
    8KiB 2TiB 16TiB
It should be noted that the 8 KiB block size is only available on architectures which allow 8 KiB pages (such as Alpha).
