I have a Optowrite DVD/CD RW burner. It is set as a slave to a regular read only cdrom. I installed Hardy from the cdrom drive. I put in a DVD, and nothing happens. I did some command, I don't remember right now, that lists all the devices seen at boot-up, and it's not there.... just the cdrom. I also tried putting "ide-generic" in the /etc/modules file, no luck. I am VERY impressed with this distro of linux! It is the first time I have had luck running windows programs with wine, I would love to get it going. Any help would be great!

Re: DVD not recognized
Couple of thoughts:
1. Was/is that DVD drive seen when running the Kubuntu Live CD?
2. Go into BIOS and see what choices are available for configuring the IDE channel(s). Try "legacy mode" or maybe swap master and slave and test it, etc. -- Linux gets its cues from BIOS on the hardware characteristics, in many cases.

I don´t have a legacy mode in my bios. Iḿ reluctant to swich drives around and cables if I don´t have to. If there is any other way that would be great.
Thanks

Re: DVD not recognized
Hmmm. I wonder if there's something changed between 7.10 and 8.04, or else something was changed between the Live CD configuration and the installed configuration.
Does the DVD device show up when you runCode:lspci
Also, in some BIOS' (like mine) you can change IDE "Master" and "Slave" in the BIOS -- that's what I was referring to, not physically changing the cable. Does your BIOS allow that?
