Need help installing Creative Xfi soundcard.

    Hi

Downloaded and installed 8.04 (KDE4) and installed it on machine.
Only problem I have is my Xfi sound card does not work (I think it's an extreme audio)

I downloaded the Creative Beta driver ran

    Code:
    sudo sh ./installer
It appears to do the compile but then gives an error

    Make error #2

So I did a web search and found an alternative solution which suggested using the latest oss drivers.
So I followed the instructions (which started by removing Alsa from my system)
but it appears to have removed KDE4-Desktop.
When I reboot I get no sound, I can get to my kde desktop but when I try run the sound applet from SYSTEM SETTINGS then it just CTD.

I'm not new to linux (been using it for about two years) but I'm stuck and install/configure/make logs still confuse me.

    Can anyone help

Installing the beta OSS driver using the URL below worked for my Creative Xfi card (Kubuntu 8.04). I have sound from amarok, kaffeine, and the firefox mplayer plugin, but no sound from firefox flash plugin using flashplugin-nonfree. From looking at the forums lots of people have problems with the flash plugin and sound...
