    C-Media CMI 9880

Installed KUBUNTU 8.04 on my Pentium4 desktop some days ago. Works and looks better than expected.
I also installed Skype, (using it a lot, living in Spain and having family and friends scattered all over the globe)

However, I can't get the microphone to work. (Works just fine with Win XP)

The PC has a C-Media audio card with CMI 9880 chipset.
Installed the ALSA-mixer, which recognises the correct chipset, but call the card "HDA Intel".

Is this C-Media card supposed to be fully compatible and functional with the Kubunti 8.04 OS?
Are there any solutions to this?
Being a complete beginner with Linux, did I possible miss something important in the installation process?

Try clicking on the little speaker icon on your panel (kmix) and have a look if:
-your mic and capture are activated
-the card you are using is "seen" by kmix

if the icon is not in your panel do this:
    alt+f2>type "kmix" "without the "'s)

Yes, the card, HDA Intel, is there.
      In the 'Input' tab:
Capture is there with the triangular icon on top red-marked.
      There is no Microphone line.

If there is no mic in your kmix it is using the wrong card or your card isn't supported with alsa.

If you are in HH kde3.5 and open up kmix you should see a small drop down field on the right hand side. click on the down arrow (if existent and see if you have a choice with a different card.

If so choose that one and see if your mic is present.

In kde4 kmix will automatically show all the available cards in tabs.

        Does sound work?
Like start up notifications or music/movies?

        I hope that helps.

Yes two cards are there there, but one is a TV card.
The sound out works OK, but however i try to fiddle with different settings, still no microphone.

          Still puzzled.............
