I've got a few problems and would really appreciate some help please,
Started yesterday, i had the final RC from a week ago running and updated, basic setup eg original drivers, no tweaks and only medibuntu repo's added. Once i was satisfied i'd got all the latest updates i decided to update the video driver.
I have a laptop here, intel 1.6 Ghz with 1.5 GB ram with an ATL radeon mobility 9700 (256) card.
1. first prob i couldn't find a way of activating the restricted driver (theres another post that covers the same problem here). Only choice was to use Envy.
2. Envy just wouldn't work - (but thats also another post, see in help the new guy)
3. Couldn't figure out how to fix either of the above so decided to reinstall but using a newly downloaded Final release "just in case" there was a difference.... who knows, right?
4. New installation - same problem with the restricted driver but now Envy did work, latest driver installed, rebooted and voila!
Problems:
Video rendering is poor/slow, if i move a window quite quickly it leaves traces (Like a spread pack of cardss if you see what i mean).
Compiz works but has crashed twice - lost the tops off of my windows and can't log out of a session, i end up in a black screen (alt-F1 or ctrl-alt-F1 doesn't help) which only resolves through a hard reset.
I've turned off special effects and things seem fine apart from the graphics problem.
Has any body any idea why i've such a problem with the graphicsa?
