Have installed previously Kubuntu 6.06 and 7.10 without success on installing, configuring and therefore using wifi on this Acer Aspire Notebook (NoBo).
With release of 8.04 (Hardy Heron) with more recent kernel version, I believed that native support for this hardware item would be better.
It was indeed, since the Atheros wifi was recognized correctly.
Nevertheless, even after searching the net for solutions and installing madwifi module suggested by Atheros, I'm still not able to configure my wifi, therefore being forced to keep Win XP on dual-boot to be able to use wifi, when a physical internet connection is not available.
After installing also suggested at Atheros site the acer_acpi module specific for this NoBo, I'm still not able to even configure wifi, as you will see by the below transcription of "iwconfig".
Other than that Hardy Heron version is working flawlessly from install, having recognized and configured virtually all if not really all hardware items, including sound which was a tricky one on previously Kubuntu installations.
Following is transcription of "lsmod", "lspci", "uname -a", and "iwconfig":
