    Network card recognition

I am trying to install kubuntu 8.04 beta on an older box, 1 gig Athlon with 256 meg memory & all is ok except that it will not talk to the network card which has a Realtek RTL8139 chipset. I know this is an old card but I thought that the 8139 was more or less a "standard".

Is this because 8.04 is a beta or is support for these older standards now dropped.

Anyone any ideas on how to get it working ?

    Thanks

It's a funny old world. My other computer also has an onboard SiS LAN chipset which works with all distros I have tried without a problem.

If you have a driver as a .tar file, try extracting it and there is probably a README file to tell you how to install it.
