hh beta1 nvidia 8800GT + dual screen problem.

    Hi all,

I got a failure on the nvidia driver after 1st install of the beta :O, which worked like a charm for me with alpha 6. It runs 640x480 on my 1st monitor and 2nd monitor it could run 1280x1024. Guess it has something to do with monitor detection. My 2nd monitor is an Acer LCD and my 1st screen is a V7 LCD.
The 1st is not recognized correctly but that was normal behaviour.

Going to reinstall the beta to get rid of the mess i might have made, and do a retry.

Ok there is still no go for my nvidia.
The hardware drivers manager is doing nothing. It shows the correct driver to install, but doesn't do a thing.
Tried to install all by hand but that messed up also.

    Cheers,

    Ralph

So I take it you tried (from a konsole):

      Code:
      sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-new
      sudo sudo nvidia-xconfig
      ?

What error are you getting at this point?

If glxinfo is indicating you're using the correct driver, I'd take a hard look at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

@Ralph, I recommend the Envy script installer. Download it from here

If you are running Hardy Heron, then you want the file on the lower right of the OS table, where it says "Get Envy NG". Download it to your desktop, and install it. Once installed, you can open a Konsole window and run
        Code:
        sudo envy -t
        to run the script.

Yes sorry i was not very detailed about my story.
I did try the method you said, but that crashed my xserver after restart.
          So back to xorg.conf.backup

Next i will try either envy or as posted also. Or download driver directly from nvidia website.

I was a surprised the tool did not work in the beta while it was working in the apha

          Thanks

              Hi all,

EnvyNG did the job correctly it installed nicely the NVidia drivers for me and left me with a working system.
Good job that EnvyNG installed 169.12 drivers, previous times it installed pre 169.09 those were no good for my 8800GT. And i needed to install from nvidia website. As said that was NOT needed now

              Cheers,

              Ralph

                8)

Now open a Konsole window and enter
                Code:
                sudo nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals --composite
This will overwrite your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file with a new one appropriate for your card and display, and enable glx and compositing.

To make it effective, restart your X server with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. Then check glx performance in a Konsole window by entering
                Code:
                glxgears
