    1394 - Firewire

Is 1394 Firewire built into Kubuntu, or do I need to install it as a module? Ican't get communication woth my old JVC DR-GVL 9600 video recorder. It is supposed to run just fine, but it is not seen from Kino.

I've found some at the Linux1394 FAQ, but it is way over what I understand.

I'm in the process of creating two DVDs, and need to be able to get the original DV tapes into Kino, so they can be put on a web page for a charity.

For the first time I am using all Linux gear - I hope. So far I have found Kompozer to be very good; tovid GUI looking promising, and Kino confusing but growing on me. (I'm used to Edit DV & Premiere style, so it will take some time.)

I can get around the original master DV-tape, but loose some quality, so I hope some of you can help me.

I haven't hooked up my cam via firewire in some time, but I do believe you need to add you username to the 'disk' group, for some forgotten reason, and then reboot your system.

You do it from within the User management applet in system settings. Click on your user account, select "modify", enter your sudo password, and then look at "Privileges and Groups", and check the 'disk' box
