    auto-launch on startup

so Kubuntu crashed for the first time today, and upon restarting, it launched everything in my home directory. I rebooted again, and the same thing happened.

    And there's nothing in /~/.kde/Autostart/

    suggestions?

    Thanks!

Maybe ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc is damaged. You could try to K > System Settings >| Advanced - tab |> Session Manager and "Start with an empty session". Log out and log in.

    or maybe renaming ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc helps.

ksmserverrc contains info what to restore on login:
    Restore previous session
Will save all applications running on exit and restore them when they next start up.

    Restore manually saved session
Allows the session to be saved at any time via "Save Session" in the K-Menu. This means the currently started application will reappear when they next start up.

    Start with an empty session
Do not save anything. Will come up with an empty desktop on next start.

      Rog-

thanks so much for the advice!

      1. I restarted with an empty session, but all the programs launched again; however, pidgin, kmix, etc. did NOT, so the empty session "worked".

      2. Next, I renamed ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc, but same song second verse.

      3. Logging out vs. shutting down makes no difference

      4. When KDE starts, my eye candy icon below the mouse shows the K menu bobbing up and down. I don't recall this ever happening before. Maybe another clue?

I've read many of the links, but most people are concerned with getting a program to launch, not stopping it! :-)

      Any other ideas?

Have you tried to rename the whole ~/.kde ?

Earlier > Topic: Kubuntu Desktop Issue

I don't think that it is this but still. KDE has autostart to all users. With the KDE 3.5 it is:
/usr/share/autostart/. Here GG has in it:
        adept_notifier_auto.desktop klipper.desktop
        guidance-power-manager.desktop knetworkmanager-autostart.desktop
        kab2kabc.desktop konqy_preload.desktop
        kblueplugd.desktop korgac.desktop
        kdesktop.desktop ktip.desktop
        kgpg.desktop panel.desktop
        khotkeys.desktop restore_kmix_volumes.desktop
