    adept will not launch

    I'm running Gutsy 7.10 on a Pentium IV. I installed the OS yesterday and adept was
    working fine. Today, I mounted the filesystem from my primary PC using NFS. I think
    linked my home directory symbolically so that it now points to my home directory
    on my primary PC. After doing that, I rebooted and tried starting up adept and
    found that it will not launch. When I log in, the prompt comes up to log into to
    adept, and the cursor blinks with the adept icon, but the adept window does not
    come up.

    Are there any suggestions on how to get the adept window up. BTW, I can
    run apt-get and it work ok still.

      I ran adept_manager and got the following:

      stty:
      standard input
      : Invalid argument

      passprompt

      Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
      Xlib:
      No protocol specified

      adept_manager: cannot connect to X server :0.0

        Re: adept will not launch

        Hmm -

        Maybe the problem is:
        stty:
        standard input
        : Invalid argument
        or
        Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
        Xlib:
        No protocol specified

        adept_manager: cannot connect to X server :0.0

        Is this helping ? > Root cannot connect to X server
        =>
        Code:
        DISPLAY=:0.0 xhost +
        and then
        Code:
        kdesudo adept_manager
        If it is helping > Cannot connect to X Server
        To make an xhost call permanent you need to create and /etc/X0.hosts file..

        If it is something else:

        Can you start the adept manader without the root rights ?, here:
        Code:
        adept_manager
        kapture::PkgSystem::PkgSystem()
        debconf
        adduser
        sysklogd
        snort-mysql
        oinkmaster
        debconf
        adduser
        sysklogd
        snort-mysql
        oinkmaster
        kdecore (KProcess): WARNING: _attachPty() 38
        and the adept manager is starting in the read only mode.

          Re: adept will not launch

          I tried 'xhost +' and then ran 'kdesudo adept_manager'. I got a slew of error messages,
          among them was the message that the .kde directory was not writable. I fix the
          permissions and was able to bring up adept. I did some installs and verified that
          it is working.

          However, when I start up adept from KDE, I get a popup error window. The font is
          large an so parts of the message are truncated. When I can read says:

          > There was an error setting up process communications by KDE. The message returned
          > by [trunctated]
          > Authentication Rejected, reason: None of the authentication specified are supported a[truncated]
          > Please check that the 'dcopserver' program is running.

          I checked and dcopserver is running.

          I suspect that my problems are due to my NFS configuration. I'm going to start a new
          thread in the networking forum.

          Thank you for the suggests.

            u could of removed .Xauthority - logged out and backin.

            I had this problem before - in the kmenu I just un-checked run as a different user which fixed it a bit. .
