Getting adept notifier to ignore specific packages

I installed the latest Openoffice.org version by downloading the rpm package, running it through alien and then installing the resulting debs with dpkg. It works fine, but:

adept notifier always shows up in my taskbar saying that an update is available. It wants to "upgrade" OOo to an earlier version.

I ran dpkg and put a hold on all the OOo packages. That helped because now, they show up as upgradeable and no change (instead of upgrade).

What I would like is to be able to get the updater to completely ignore these and a few other packages so it does not tell me an update is available when everything else is up to date.

    TIA

Pinning version (keep adept from updating a package)

Pinning it worked great. The preferences file did not exist so I created it with just those lines in it. That's all it took.

Now my notifier works correctly. I did have to run adept and update sources to get the notifier to see the change.

      Thanks a lot.
