    Installed Comiz-Fusion is not working

    Hi

Earlier this week I installed Compiz-Fusion, I did it through Adept.

The thing is, it's not working.

I've tryed CTRL + ALT + arrow and ctrl+alt+leftmousebutton. That's the only two Compiz commandon I know now.

    But nothing is happening.

I found the program to set up Compiz in the Kmenu, can't remember now what it's called, but I get the feeling I missed something.

    Thanks.

Ensure that all the files in my other post are installed. Install any that aren't.

Then, you need to ensure that you can actually run Compiz. Open a console and type:
    Code:
    glxgears
If you get a window with three colored/rotating gears, good. Report back.

Re: Installed Comiz-Fusion is not working

      Hi,
I got this running on 2 of my PCs using the doc from the Kubuntu doc page.
      http://www.kubuntu.org/doc/7.10/conf...#compiz-fusion
I was up and running in less then a half hour for both.
One is a IBM T43 laptop with and ATI X300 card, and the other is a AMD 2400 running a nvida older card with 64mb of ram on it. I just had to install the restricted driver for the ATI card, but I had to go to Nvidas web sit for the other card.
      I hope this helps.

          Hi

          Snowhog:
          The following packages are missing:
          compizconfig-backend-gconf
          compizconfig-backend-kconfig
          desktop-effects-kde

          But I have
          libcompizconfig-backend-gconf
          and
          libcompizconfig-backend-kconfig
installed. I don't know the diffrence. Where do I find the first three (for download?)?

          I got the gears.

            K Menu > System > Adept Manager

Type in your password when prompted. Search for each package and click the blue > next to the package name and click the Request Install button. Once you have the packages marked for installation, click on Apply Changes on the menu bar.

              Yes

But the packages don't exist in Adept Manager.
              Can't find them there.

It's just those tree, the rest is installed and ready.

Open Adept Manger and click on Manage Repositories. Ensure that both the universe and multiverse repositories are checked. If either or both are unchecked, then when you check them and close the window, Adept Manager should automatically update itself. If it does not, click on Fetch Updates. Check for the packages afterwards.

Nope sorry all four of them is checked.

Tryed to change the server that Adept gets the packeges from, no change.

Hi I have created a screen shot of the compiz packages I have installed.
                    http://www.theorky.net-a.googlepages.com/compiz
I can not attach it here as I have not figured that on out.
Just go to that link and you can see it.

I compared your picture to what I had installed.

All you had I had, but I'm gonna try to uninstall all I had but not you.

                      I'll be back.

Nothing happened it's still the same.

                        What backend do you have?

                        Integration is checked?

                        Profile?

                        Plug-ins?

                        Might that do any difference?

                          Hi,
I am not sure what you mean by backend?
                          I am running Kubuntu 7.10.
                          How did you start compiz?
I started it by putting this command in the run comand box from the K menu.
                          compiz --replace

To change the settings I go to K menu>Settings>Advanced desktop effects settings.

Now I did not setup compiz to run at startup cause I have KDE restore my session on startup.

                            Hi

If you go to "Advanced desktop effects settings" you can find the alternative "Preference" in the colomn to the left. In there you can choose backend. I have "KDE Configuration Backend", (Note: I have no idé what backend does).

                            I have 7.10 too.

The first time I started Compiz was the same as you. Now I have a programlink in the autostart folder so Compiz starts by automatic.

What do you mean by KDE restore your session?

I have KDE backend as well.

What I mean by restore my session is this- any program I have running when I turn off my laptop starts back up when I turn on my laptop.
                              Kmenu>System settings>Advanced tab>Session manager.

                              Did you get it working?
