Visiting some sites, such as gmail.com, causes konqueror to display two vertical scrollbars that overlap each other. It's almost like it thinks there's a frame there or something. In addition, links to individual mail items won't open when I click on them. Any ideas?

Re: Konqueror Scrollbars
I've found that Konqueror has difficulty with some sites that have badly formed CSS and have given up trying to get it to work properly. I've tried changing the browser identification to various different values to no avail. That's why I now have Firefox installed on my Gutsy system. Very few webmasters test their sites for Konqueror compatibility.

Re: Konqueror Scrollbars
Blaming it on the sites is a failed argument here. You see, I had Gentoo installed on this very computer a few weeks ago and it worked fine. I have Gentoo currently installed on my work computer and it works fine right now.
So lets see: site hasn't changed. computer hasn't changed. what's left? Something that Kubuntu does with konqueror. Or the package maintainer, or however it works with this system.
But honestly, if freaking gmail didn't work with konqueror no matter what, there would be a huge uproar in the linux community, don't you think?

Re: Konqueror Scrollbars
So, I'm just curious, is the lack of support typical of kubuntu?
I put up another post in which I explained everything I did, gave all the file outputs I could think of and not one reply. I had to go over into New Guy and act like a retard to get a response.
Am I in the wrong place? Does ubuntu provide better support for kde stuff or what?

Re: Konqueror Scrollbars
Sheesh, after a looong weekend at work, finally get a day off, I have to track down and delete a huge amount of spam posts, and then settle down to read some mild abuse
I would guess that the KDE version in Gentoo might not be the same as that in Kubuntu or another distro, necessarily. As google doesn't support Konqueror, any tweaks they do to their apps might possibly do something for one distro (and its tweaks, customizations, etc) and be OK for another. As a gentoo user, I am sure you would know how to figure out config files, rc file and the like to see what the differences between the two distros might be......
As google has no support for Konqueror, and their apps run so poorly (if at all) I think that not many of us have tried to use the browser for those things much.
To be honest, maybe you found a new bug that no one has yet noticed or seen
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ is the place for that.

Re: Konqueror Scrollbars
Actually I didn't insult anybody. I just made a reference to my experience here, and wondered if it was typical. I also asked if there was a better place to be posting; one that might be more appropriate. Given that kubuntu is a spinoff of ubuntu, there may not be a lot of traffic here. It's a perfectly legitimate question. If you chose to be insulted, that's your problem, but it has no bearing on anything I said.
The fact is I did make a post in which I gave all the details I could. No response. Not one. Put the exact same problem in New Guy without any info and got some help, but first I had to wade through the 'you didn't give us any info' posts. So, on two posts in this forum, I get no valid response. But 1 post on the new guy forum yields responses. This would also lead me to believe I might be posting in the wrong forum, or that lots of information makes people skip the post. It's also why I didn't give much information in the OP for this issue. I was seeing if perhaps it was the abundance of information in the previous post that led to not getting a response.
As a gentoo user I did know how to look through and compare the files. But at the time of my original posting, that info hadn't been given out, for the reason listed above. It did come as a shock to me that no one here suggested anything along those lines.
As to this 'google docs' or 'google apps' stuff, at no time did I mention this. It was about gmail, as an example of an issue that occurs on several sites, displaying two scrollbars. That's it. I have no idea where you people got that notion.
FWIW, I have the solved the problem. It's handled by changing the identification string in Konqueror for the problem sites. Works great now.
And yes, I'm saying that a Gentoo user, on his own, was able to solve a problem that no one in the Kubuntu forums was able to give even the least little productive hint on. You can take that as an insult to the knowledge of your user base if you want, but that's not how it's intended.

Maybe no one immediately knew the answer. Or read your post, or any number of scenarios
Gmail, and all the other Google apps historically have had many problems running in Konqueror that I simply imagine most of us don't even try using them in the KDE web browser, that was one of my points.

Re: Konqueror Scrollbars
They actually haven't lost a capable user at all. As you can see in an earlier post, I still have it running on a different comp. It's just that I have a number of clients who are growing more and more unhappy with windows and are looking to linux. Gentoo probably isn't for them, but something a bit easier like kubuntu might be.
However, I'll need to be able to support them when they use it, and I would like to make sure that whatever distro I put them on is one where they can get support if I'm not around.
And I don't know if people here aren't getting enough support. I just know that *I* wasn't getting any help, and I wanted to find out what to do to remedy that. Seriously, what is it with you people? If this is a small community and ubuntu would actually be a better place to post, then just tell me. If responses here typically take more than 4 days to get a response, then clue me in.
How could you be offended by me asking if a lack of support was typical? I know there's a bunch of possible reasons, but it happened to me twice. Is it normal or not? I looked through a bunch of post headings and didn't see a lot of [solved] posts, but maybe you don't encourage users to do that here. I don't know, so I asked.
By your own admission you are a small group of users, most of whom aren't techies. It would seem then, logically, that most unusual problems aren't going to get answered. There's no shame in this. I'm not degrading you or your user base. It's just how it is.
Hey, if there's just you two out here as the knowledge experts, and you're doing the best you can in an overwhelming flood of noobs, then kudos to you. I applaud your efforts. But, by definition, that means a lack of support is typical. It's not being offensive. It's just a fact.
And, finally, I have helped here already. You're welcome.
