does this mean there will be an improvement in flash? It's crashing firefox all the time on me. The sites the family likes to go to are flash games and youtube.

found this the other day, I posted a comment and it still hasn't made it through moderation. I suppose if fixing flash is any thing like running a blog it'll never happen.

I remember reading somewhere that crashes could be caused by swap usage. You can report a bug to adobe here:
            http://www.adobe.com/bin/fp9betafeedback.cgi

Do you have only flashplugin-nonfree package installed in your system? Nothing else that could cause conflicts, like gnash or flash installed in user $HOME/.mozilla/plugins? Does typing aboutlugins in firefox show:
            Shockwave Flash

              Re: flashplugin-nonfree broken again

umm... much more than just that, I installed gnash after reading some posts that it was cooperating well for dibl. How do I update to r124? and do I need to remove some of these things? hmm I don't see gnash listed in here though.

I've been holding off, but on the verge of putting xp back on this famliy machine or maybe just vmware. It really crashes all the time when the kids play their flash game webkinz or the oldest watches her youtube.

                Re: flashplugin-nonfree broken again

alright! I went to the adobe site and now have
                File name: libflashplayer.so
                Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124

                MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
                application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf Yes
                application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl Yes
Do any of the plugins listed in the above post look problematic? Just wondering if removing any of them would make flash more stable. :fingerscrossed:

                  Re: flashplugin-nonfree broken again

why did you download it manually? The package has been fixed:
                  Code:
                  sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
I don't know how flash works, but I guess you should try removing all opensource flashplayers you have installed + make sure flashplayer isn't installed in anyone's $HOME/.mozilla/plugins directory.
Maybe something else causes the crashes? Remove some firefox extensions?

                    Re: flashplugin-nonfree broken again

After I installed it, I had youtube vids playing and the kids webkinz game going for about 20-30 minutes simultaneously. NO crashes! And I was getting ready to put xp on this machine. I think I"ll do a virtual or try to get some kids games running through wine next.

I also wanted to chime in that the combination of firefox and gnash is crashing kde. In my case, it's every thirty seconds. I finally removed mozilla-plugin-gnash just so I could be able to post here.

I hope there's something coming down the pipe soon to address this! In the mean time, I guess I have to dual boot if I want to see anything flash based.

why? there is linux flashplayer version (nobody is forcing you to use gnash)

                          Re: flashplugin-nonfree broken again

I switched to gnash at a time when Adobe only offered flash 7 to linux users when other OS's had versions 8 and 9. It's good to know that disparity is no longer the case. I will look into installing Adobe's version of flash again.
