    Compiz problems...

I've had compiz working in the past, but replaced my video card (3 times in the last week...don't ask!)...here is what I get:

    Code:
    $compiz --replace
     Checking for Xgl: not present.
     Detected PCI ID for VGA: 01:00.0 0300: 10de:0622 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
     Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
Checking for non power of two support: present.
     Checking for Composite extension: present.
Comparing resolution (3600x1200) to maximum 3D texture size (8192): Passed.
     Checking for nVidia: present.
     Checking for FBConfig: present.
     Checking for Xgl: not present.
     Starting emerald
/usr/bin/compiz.real (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image format
It says that XGL is not present, then goes ahead and starts, but I get no cube, or anything else. I have tried glxgears, and get >16000FPS, so I know GLX is there...any ideas? I'm at a loss!

    Re: Compiz problems...

I have been using Mandriva, But this past week I choose to switch to Kubuntu. I had a little trouble with the cube also. I know it is silly but stick to the basics. Use the following link to get compiz up and running. I get teh same error about no XGL and ccp. the cube still works along with the other functions. the issue I am having is with emerald widow decorations. My advice solve the cube issue first, then work out the issues.

      Re: Compiz problems...

that's the guide I used to install in the first place...is there a way to purge all settings and start from scratch? I'm wondering if I have a setting somewhere that when I reinstall isn't working...

        Re: Compiz problems...

Here is how to take it out:

Then use the above link from earlier to reinstall.
        Hope that helps.
It is the long and safe way.

Me I am a little more drastic when I cut. I run kde4 primarily and kde as a back up situation.
I would backup my home directory. remove all the compiz config files then do the install from the earlier post. Better known as a dirty install in the old Windows environment.

        Hope this solve the issue...
