Ok, I will give that a shot. As I mentioned before there are actually some things missing such as the wallpaper files, no big deal, but it makes me think bits and pieces of KDE are missing. The cosmetic parts anyway.

To summarize. In my tweaking I added KDE4. Then I decided I didn't like it and removed it. That took parts of KDE 3 with it I think.

I tried to remove KDE4 from a test install of Gutsy. Bad things happened. It was a virtual install, so it wasn't no big deal, but I did have to delete that virtual environment and start all over.

Are you saying I might have to reinstall from scratch? My fear is messing up my dual boot on this machine. Remember, I am a newbie blunderer at this point.

No. Just confirming that removing KDE4 caused problems in KDE3. Reinstalling kubuntu-desktop should correct some things.

Ok, whew! I am on the windows instance right now. Will reboot and try the apt-get and report back. Have a doctor appointment early so will have to try it after I get back home. Thanks so much to all for the hand holding through this. I remain optimistic but only because of your support.

Hooray! That did the trick. Looks like everything is back. Thank you soooooooooo much for your help. I am a happy Kubunter again.

So far everything continues to run smoothly. All of my tweaks seem to still be there too. I am very happy. Thanks again everyone for your help.
