    desktop effects

How do I enable the desktop effects like in Ubuntu? I've tried several things that I've found on the 'net to do and they didn't work. I know that they should too because they worked in Ubuntu when I had it :P

    Thanks!

I was thinking like the wobbly windows, the cube, and things like that. Compiz-fusion I believe?

What video card/chip do you have? Open a console and type:
        Code:
        glxgears
Do you get a window with three colored spinning gears? (In the console window, press Ctrl+C to stop/close the other window - if you get one)

I get three gears, red, blue, and green. In the terminal after a few seconds it started reading an fps which said:

          4724 frames in 5.0 seconds = 944.678 FPS
          4780 frames in 5.0 seconds = 955.811 FPS
          4766 frames in 5.0 seconds = 953.034 FPS
          4755 frames in 5.0 seconds = 950.910 FPS
          4748 frames in 5.0 seconds = 949.447 FPS

Assuming you do have a video card with 3D capability, then to install Compiz-Fusion, open Adept Manager (K Menu | System | Adept Manager) and mark for installation the compiz and emerald packages

                  Snowhog,

Out of interest I don't have:

                  K Menu | System Settings | General | Appearance

                  Style Effects Toolbar

I'm using 7.10 and have 'settings' but no 'General' nor 'Appearance' and no sign of a 'Style Effects Toolbar'!

                  Any idea as to why?

                    Do you have "compizconfig-settings-manager" installed?

                      Missed one part:

                      K Menu | System Settings | General | Appearance | Style

From there, on the right, are three tabs: Style Effects Toolbar

Arh Right - I know what you mean now. Confusion (a common problem) resulting from different 'titles' in K Menu.
