Revert to a previous version of mythtv (or any application)

I run mythtv-backend and run a number of xbox (xbmcmythtv) clients. I was working grand until I updated to the latest version of mythtv-backend and associated applications. Now the xbmcmythtv perl script won't connect to the backend. I am hoping that the developer will fix it soon as his other scripts work, but in the interim, these xbox clients are the primary way my family watches tv. I would like to just use apt (or similar) to roll back to the previous version of mythtv-backend and associated applications. Is there a simple way to do this? I expect that this question is not unique to mythtv. Thanks.

Maybe this helps: How to downgrade packages (forcing version)

      Rog,

It does help, but I can't figure out the correct version. The 'Replaces' portion gives a range. I went to the Ubuntu site and looked up the package to see if it told what version it replaces, but no joy. I tried guessing, but also no joy. I am not even sure if the previous version is still in the repositories. This is a headless server, so I am trying to get x11vnc running so I can try synaptic.

I found a howto and got x11vnc and xinetd running. Very nice. I got on synaptic and tried to force a downgrade, but it looks like I am going to hose my whole setup. I am going to wait (not too patiently) to see if the developer updates the perl script. He has one version that works, so hopefully, he can spot the problem and correct it without too much trouble.
