If you have copied text output that contains formatting (colors, highlighting, etc.), please do not enclose it in QUOTE or CODE tags. Just right-click your mouse and choose "Paste Without Formatting" or similar (Paste as plain text).
I use this not for Dolphin but for Konqueror, to get movie thumbnails in Konqueror.
I don't know if/what harm it would do to install it and try (you can always uninstall).
It installs easily & quickly though Adept Manager.

That's what I installed for Konqueror and it does fine there. I do use Dolphin and they display properly there too. I think the two use the same thing, but don't hold me to that though.
MoonRise, I don't use Dolphin, but opened it just now (guess I didn't remove it), and it displays wmv thumbnails just fine; the only thing I've installed is libarts1-xine (for the movie thumbnails in Konquereor) and kubuntu-restricted-extras (to run wmv's in Kaffeine). Whatever the logic (necessary & sufficient conditions), it certainly seems sufficient, as you said.
