    Source for KDar under Gutsy

    Back before I used Kubuntu I used to use KDar to back up my data. Since I switched, I've not been able to find a source for the package. Where should I point aptitude to find it? Or is there another backup application out there that is as good or better for a home computer type application? FWIW, I'm backing up to and NAS device (basically another computer with a big HDD).

    Thanks.

    Re: Source for KDar under Gutsy

    Have you tried Ubuntu Packages:
    http://packages.ubuntu.com/

    Search package directories: kdar
    Distribution: any

    =>

    You have searched for packages that names contain kdar in all suites, all sections, and all architectures. Found 1 matching packages.

    Package kdar
    * dapper (kde): archive data to disc [universe]
    2.0.6-0ubuntu3: amd64 i386 powerpc
    * edgy (kde): archive data to disc [universe]
    2.0.6-0ubuntu3: amd64 i386 powerpc
    => Download kdar
    http://packages.ubuntu.com/edgy/kdar

    => Download Page for kdar_2.0.6-0ubuntu3_i386.deb on Intel x86 machines
    (or Download Page for kdar_2.0.6-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb on AMD64 machines ?)

    Download and right click package: Open With > GDebi Package Installer

    It may or may not work with Gutsy.

    "Disk ARchive using dar and kdar(dar Frontend)" tells:
    http://www.debianadmin.com/disk-arch...-frontend.html
    kdar Edgy Problem with Solution

    When you try to install kdar you will get the following error

    The following packages have unmet dependencies.
    kdar: Depends: libdar3c2a but it is not installable E: Broken packages

    Solution1

    If you are seeing the above error you need to download libdar3c2a from dapper packages and install this package.
    Maybe this works with Gutsy.

    Latest source package:

    Kdar
    http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show...?content=10367
    Description:
    The "KDE Disk archiver" (KDar) is a disk-based archiving and backup utility.

    This is the eighth release in the KDar-2.0 series. KDar-2.0.7 fixes a bug in the command export -A option where archive extensions were not trimmed.

    Peter Landgren has provided an update of the Swedish translation which corrects some misspellings.
