Why not Realplayer in Firefox 64bit. Not solved.

Ubuntu/Kubuntu have for quite a while had a problem with Realplayer. I don't have it in Synaptic Canonical and third party repos ARE enabled so why isn't it there? Strange. How do I get Realplayer and get it to work in Firefox
    Thanks,<br />popatopalous<br />Kubuntu 7.10 x86_64 : AMD64 X2 4800+ : 4x1GB DDR2 800 : GeForce 6150 256MB : ASUS M2NPV-VM : HD-2x320GB

Ok, ok, I know I can and just did install Realplayer from it's own website although there is an Ubuntu trick. There is a package you have to install to install Realplayer. But it's a secret... And I positively know Realplayer will not have sound. Realplayer hasn't had sound upon install for me since the beginning or Ubuntu [Breezy for me]. This HAS to be an unfixed bug.
    Thanks,<br />popatopalous<br />Kubuntu 7.10 x86_64 : AMD64 X2 4800+ : 4x1GB DDR2 800 : GeForce 6150 256MB : ASUS M2NPV-VM : HD-2x320GB

      Code:
      $ cd /usr/lib/firefox/plugins
      :/usr/lib/firefox/plugins$ ls
      flashplugin-alternative.so mplayerplug-in-dvx.xpt mplayerplug-in-rm.xpt mplayerplug-in.xpt
      libjavaplugin.so mplayerplug-in-qt.so mplayerplug-in.so nphelix.so
      libunixprintplugin.so mplayerplug-in-qt.xpt mplayerplug-in-wmp.so nphelix.xpt
      mplayerplug-in-dvx.so mplayerplug-in-rm.so mplayerplug-in-wmp.xpt
      Code:
      :/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins$ ls
      flashplugin-alternative.so mplayerplug-in-qt.so mplayerplug-in.so nphelix.so
      libjavaplugin.so mplayerplug-in-qt.xpt mplayerplug-in-wmp.so nphelix.xpt
      mplayerplug-in-dvx.so mplayerplug-in-rm.so mplayerplug-in-wmp.xpt
      mplayerplug-in-dvx.xpt mplayerplug-in-rm.xpt mplayerplug-in.xpt
Ok so there are the appropriate plugins listed but the DO NOT appear in Firefox in 'aboutlugins'. What's wrong?
      Thanks,<br />popatopalous<br />Kubuntu 7.10 x86_64 : AMD64 X2 4800+ : 4x1GB DDR2 800 : GeForce 6150 256MB : ASUS M2NPV-VM : HD-2x320GB

Try putting the helix plugin files in ~/.mozilla/plugins/

          Edit:
          Have you tried this:
          http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/sho...=587953&page=8

          It worked for me.

You will ahve to have gdebi installed.
It is in the repos so you can use adept/synaptic or:
          Code:
          sudo apt-get install gdebi
HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
          4 GB Ram
          Kubuntu 18.10

Thanks, but that didn't change anything.

Thanks but that resulted in the error 'wrong architecture'. As far as I can tell it isn't possible to have Realplayer work in in Firefox in Kubuntu AMD64. To bad...

Ah, the old 64bit trap. Well I can't help you there.

Maybe dible? When he comes on line.

How about retitling your thread to realplay with 64bit?

                Or soemting similar.

If we don't know what kind of machine (specs) you are working on
it becomes a slight bit difficult

                Sorry

Re: Why not Realplayer in Firefox 64bit.

This is a processor specific problem, move this thread to our 64 bit forum please!

What I can say about this is currently my desktop has some severe problems which I am working on solving, so I can't really do a lot of looking around on my own machine to check how my setup is compared to you. However I do know this:

                    1. I am a KDE purist and use the KDE applications whenever possible. In other words I use Konqueror for web browsing.
                    2. I have realplayer working, but there is a stuttering noisy sound (and I always believed that was because real does not supply proper 64-bit codecs to the open source society although they have a history of being rather supportive.)
                    3. I have a 64 bit AMD machine with Kubuntu 7.10 64 bit version!
                    4. Realplayer works in konqueror through a firefox plugin, so shouldn't it work in firefox too?

I'm not a Realplayer fan, particularly, but if you will point me to a source stream that you want to play, maybe I can fool around on this 64-bit Hardy Heron / KDE 4 system and make something happen. I'm willing to give it a shot.

Thanks. Here are 2 favorites that do MUCH better with Realplayer:

If moderator wishes to move thread by all means do so. This problem started for me in Linux Mint which is x86 so when I originally posted I didn't know if it was strictly speaking a 64 bit problem in Kubuntu.

OK, I think I'm outta gas on this one -- only partial success, I'm afraid.

The downloadable RealPlayer file for Linux offered on the RealPlayer site is "RealPlayer10GOLD.bin". If you download this file, and change the permissions to make it executable with
                              Code:
                              sudo chmod +x RealPlayer10GOLD.bin
in the Konsole, you'll be able to install it (in Konsole, "cd" to your /home/user/Desktop and
                              Code:
                              sudo sh ./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin
) and have a RealPlayer player. So, I got that far -- I can put the player on my desktop and I'm sure it will play SOME realplayer source music. You can even click "File > Open Location" and paste in your URL. But ... there's another problem. It says "The Player does not have the capabilities to play back this content."
                              >

On your http://www.rte.ie/radio/index.html site, if you pretend like you're running Windows and click on the "Install Missing Plugins" link, it will show you that you need ver. 10.5.

Why RealPlayer would do this to its users, I don't know. But they're offering 10.0.9, and then generating content playable only with 10.5. >

                              So, I think we're screwed, regardless of whether we're running 32-bit or 64-bit. >

If it's any consolation, VLC will play some of the content (videos) on the BBC web site. I haven't attempted their audio streams, but maybe I will now just to see.

EDIT: OK, on your BBC link, after you have installed RealPlayer as explained above, if you click the "Listen Live" then "Listen Live -- RealPlayer" link first (as opposed to Windows Media Player) and then in the next window click "Listen using stand alone RealPlayer" it plays just fine. So we'll call it a "partial" solution.

EDIT #2: Depending on how attached you are to it, it looks to me like you MIGHT be able to play that Irish site -- I found a tiny little "Play clip in Real Player" link that lets the clips download and play on the desktop player ...... I dunno, there may be a way. Try first clicking the channel you want, like "Lyric", then click the little "Play clip in Real Player" link that is in the middle of the left side of the radio window.
