    E-sword

I am trying to install a program on Kubuntu called esword. It easily installs on Ubuntu because of the package manager thing. Is there a way to get this to install in Kubuntu? The link to the download can be found Ubuntu forums at http://www.whatwouldjesusdownload.co...tu_1.7_all.deb

    Thanks!

Okay, I was able to get it installed but I guess that it won't load/start under Kubuntu? Is that possible since ubuntu and kubuntu are based on the same thing apart from GNOME and KDE?

I think the problem is the .deb file is designed to install into ubuntu/gnome, not into kubuntu/kde. There are a lot of dependencies that the .deb file links to in a gnome environment which just aren't there in kubuntu. You could probably find a way to get it to work...but it might be quite an undertaking.

I actually tried installing esword a few different ways. The .deb file was a no-go. Then I tried installing esword under wine, but that was horribly slow. The best solution of all (for me) was to use virtualbox and run a virtual windows xp. esword works 100% normal in that environment. But if you have no other use for a virtual machine then it might not be worth the trouble.

I use BibleTime for my day to day usage, and though it's not as friendly to use as esword, it does the basics well and plays nice with kde.

If you installed it in ubuntu using synaptic then you can install it to kubuntu using adept. All the packages are exactly the same between the two (they both access the same repositories). The only difference is that if the app is designed for gnome then adept may also install a bunch of dependencies along with it that you would already have in gnome.
