[SOLVED] Update error

I'm getting this error when I look for updates.

Try to clean up the sources list to only include the common sources and mark the ones in the bottom with # and see if you still get the error. Clean it up until you find the evil source, and get back to the forum with your results.

I think the problem is that some of the sources say "gusty" instead of "gutsy." Changing those should fix the problem.

The last two lines of your sources.list file have gutsy spelled as gusty. Edit the file as root and correct the spelling.

So the gusty should have a period after it?

These are the last two lines of your /etc/apt/sources.list

You have gutsy spelled as gusty. This is the problem. You need to edit the file as root and change the spelling so the last two lines look like this:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy universe multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy universe multiverse

Save the file. Then run this command in a console:

sudo apt-get update

It's actually 4 lines that contain the word "gusty" instead of the correct word "gutsy". That is why you are getting four 404 errors.

It's a typo..."gusty" doesn't exist. "gutsy" is correct.

Northsider must not have provided the complete sources.list in the post, as only the last two lines show the spelling error. So, Northsider, pay heed to this. Find the other two lines in the file that have gutsy spelled as gusty and fix them too.

I can see some people are putting a [SOLVED] or *Solved* tag in their subject when the problem is solved. Why is this tag so rare?

How to tag:
The author of the thread, must modify the first message by manually editing the subject title.

I think the [SOLVED] tag in the subject title would make the forum system more efficient for helping people who need help.

To all thread authors, consider using this tag. You can always start a new thread being more specific about an unanswered question, which rarely is the same as the original subject title.
