    KDE4 Package manager [SOLVED]

    I just installed 7.10w/kde4 from
    http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/gutsy/kde4/
It looks great but I got no initial upgrade notice and when I try to open the package manager I get the error message: Kpackage requires the
    SMART Package
    Manager to be installed
    in order to function

Can someone give me the command line to install this package?!?!?!?

    Thanks

Install the package smartpm-core either from Adept or using

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install smartpm-core
Although I thought this has already been fixed as per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...e4/+bug/181950 . Maybe the image you got is using an older version of packages.

Is there a new package manager for kde4? I've been using adept for kde3...anything new I should be trying?

Thanks Jucato. Do you know if there is a newer (better) image out there of 7.01 with KDE4?

No, it's still Adept Manager for KDE4.

AFAIK, the Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon ISO images do not include KDE4. KDE4 must be installed separately --
            Code:
            sudo apt-get install kde4-core
if memory serves. At this time, it should install the 4.01 version of KDE4.

This is an unsupported file, but it does include KDE4.

                Aha -- I didn't know about that!

But, with an 11 JAN date, that's going to be the buggy original KDE 4, not the 4.01 that's in the repos now, right?

                  Re: KDE4 Package manager

Correct. However, I wanted to reinstall because every time I tried to get the KDE4 core with adept , it gave me a broken package message and I wanted to see how it worked.

                    Re: KDE4 Package manager

Kpackage now works and I have installed Adept. So far KDE4 looks like a great improvement. What are the differences between Kpkg and adept?
