    [SOLVED] Kubuntu 7.10 LiveCD i386 and x64

Neither version of the LiveCD will allow the contents of an internal NTFS HDD to be seen. When trying to mount gives the message hal-storage-fixed-mount-all-options refused uid 999.

It does allow seeing an external USB vFAT HDD [FAT32].

    No problem with Ubuntu.

    • Go to console: (CTR+ALT+F1) or (Launch Konsole)
    • cd /media
    • sudo mkdir sda1
    • sudo mount /dev/sda1 sda1

If not sda1 replace with sda2
If not a partition on sda replace sda1 with sdb1
If it is external via USB it is probably sdc1

That is a known issue with Kubntu's LiveCDs. The method mentioned above may work, never have tried it from a LiveCD so I can't say for sure. It would require you to know how the system identified the internal HD. I can say that it appears that HH (8.04) will correct this. I only recommend using it to test basic functions of Kubuntu as this is still in Alpha, but the last release of 8.04 did auto-mount my NTFS file systems rather nicely.

Kubuntu Live CD works fine with a USB HDD.

Guess I'll have to put up with Ubuntu until the next version of Kubuntu.

You can still download the LiveCD for 8.04. I was amazed with this Alpha and how much really worked right off. No, I wouldn't install it right yet, but this LiveCD will really let you see what Kubuntu has to offer - not that I'm pushing it .

                  Me too!

But, I was rash and installed it anyway, and then installed KDE 4 on top of HH. Amazingly, it all mostly works -- haven't had any real problems at all. Only Flash is broken (but isn't it usually?).

Oh, btw, stay away from System Settings -- there are better ways to do most of that stuff anyway.

That's what I want to hear because as soon as 8.04 is out in KDE4 fashion, all of my systems are being redone from ground up!

I can see some people are putting a [SOLVED] or *Solved* tag in their subject when the problem is solved. Why is this tag so rare?

                        How to tag:
The author of the thread, must modify the first message by manually editing the subject title.

Of course.. I don't know if the author of this thread is satisfied with the answer ;-)

I think the [SOLVED] tag in the subject title would make the forum system more efficient for helping people who need help.

To all thread authors, consider using this tag. You can always start a new thread being more specific about an unanswered question, which rarely is the same as the original subject title.

I got the download but haven't had time to burn the CD and try it yet, ergo no Solved tag from me.
