When I start adept, or apt, whichever you want to call it, an error comes up, telling me that another process is using it. How do I fix the problem? This started coming up after I(by mistake) closed the konsole while it was installing the restricted formats package.

From Konsole type "sudo dpkg --configure -a". That usually works. Let us know if not and we'll take it from there. -

It's a small 0 bite file called 'lock'.
When you remove it all is well.
