Logbook Of The World - Installation Problem - acpid Support?

I am trying to install a Amateur Radio program called LogBook of the World (LOTW) and it is actually listed under the name "trustedqsl" in the Universe repository. However, If i use Adept to try to install it (or any other program for that matter), Adept throws up some error message about half way through the installation and then just stops.

So..I decided to use the console. "Sudo apt-get install trustedqsl" gives me the below information. What does it mean? Better yet, what do I need to do to get this program installed.

The fate of our world hangs on the outcome. Well, okay. Maybe not. :P

I can do that but what do those packages do? Do they have something to do with Adept?

Okay...I tried to install but it seems to have failed. Here is the copy of the text generated after each install command. What now?

Apt-get is telling us that the three packages are installed (or at least, are the current version). Open a console and type, one at a time, the following commands:
          Code:
          sudo dpkg --configure -a
          sudo apt-get autoclean
          sudo apt-get update
          sudo apt-get install
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

...and, I just tried to install the trustedqsl file that I downloaded from the ARRL website hoping that maybe something got fixed. Doing so yielded the same error that I got before.

Oh crap! Doing the same thing repeatedly without changing anything but expecting to receive different results is a sign of insanity!!

Do you have all of the repositories in Adept Manger | Adept | Manage Repositories | Kubuntu Software marked? If not, do so, then Fetch Updates and try again. Grasping at straws here. If that doesn't work, then are you have Power Management in the BIOS disabled??

Every repository was marked except "Source Code" which I just marked. Also, System Settings shows that Power Saving is enabled. Not sure about the Bios as I never go in there.

The package name is acpid, and you've already tried installing it separately. Have you checked your BIOS to see if you have Power Management turned on (if it's turned off, that might be part of the problem)? The fact that Adept is reporting:
                      Setting up acpid (1.0.4-5ubuntu8) ...
                      * Loading ACPI modules... [ OK ]
                      * Starting ACPI services... invoke-rc.d: initscript acpid, action "start" failed.
Makes me believe that your PC's power management (in the BIOS) isn't active. Again, I'm speculating here.

I checked the BIOS. Power management is enabled. The hard drive and monitor are both set to turn off after 30 minutes of inactivity. However, they do not. I've left my PC on all night before - just sitting there with nothing more than my iPod plugged in. It just runs all night.

Matter of fact, I don't believe I've ever seen it shut itself down. Does this lend a clue

Check for services that should be started at boot. K Menu | System Settings | Advanced | Services Look for acpid (a daemon). If it exists, see if it has been set not to run at boot. If that is the case, then change it to start at boot.

                            This is what I see:

                            Service Start At Boot Status
                            acpid Yes Not running
                            acpi-support.dpkg-new No Not running

Why would it not be running if it supposed to start at boot?

I don't have an answer to that. See, if in System Settings | Advanced | Services, you are able to start the acpid daemon. If you are able to get it to show that it is running, retry installing your package. Again, I'm 'grasping at straws.' But, you won't hurt anything by the attempt.
