    amarok not playin mp3s suddenly

amarok has stopped playin mp3 files all of a sudden
i installed kde4 and i think this is happening after that

    anything that i can do?

amarok says xine cannot handle mp3s.. and so amarok doesnt support it
it gives me an option which says... install mp3 support
but clicking on that .. nothing happens

    am new to linux

Try running Amarok in a Konsole, and post the output. Whatever it says after you clicked on it to install MP3 support.

You may need to install the Resitricted packages in Adept, or the "lame" packages, etc...

Which version of Kubuntu are you running. 7.10 Gutsy?

    The answers are out there...

      Sometimes /home/user/.xine folder gets garbled:
Topic: Amarok 1.4.5, libxine-extracodecs installed, no mp3 playback

          Hello,

Maybe this could go to the FAQs (until being fixed?) because it's pretty strange and definitely not obvious.

New to kubuntu (7.10; in fact ubuntu migrated into kubuntu) (but not in linux (gentoo at home)) i thought i was back to windows re-installation nightmare:
          - I do not know when pb arose because i have quite some of ogg files...
          - I checked for hours (well, in fact, minutes, but that seemed to me hours especially 'cos i'm at work ) packages (xine, amarok, extra, etc.)
          - even running amarok in console did not give clue
          - nor 'automatic' mp3 helper in amarok (after amarok re-installation)

Of course hopefully this forum was here and cleaning-up ~/.xine quickly fixed my pb.

          Thanks.

had the same problem after an update. it just stopped playing mp3s and when you pressed the Install MP3 Support - bothing happened.

deleting the .xine hidden folder from the home directory solved the problem.

            Thanks to all above!
