Autohide Plasma (kicker) bar?

I need a how-to on making the plasma bar auto-hide. I don't care if I need to modify configuration scripts.
I'm in disbelieve that something that takes up 10% of my screen real estate is always permanently there.
So far I've managed to permanently hide the bar (and put it back), as well as switch the style of kicker.

How did you do that? some of would maybe be interested.
