Firefox and Flash plugin

Lately, I've had a few problems with the Flash plugin for Firefox. First, I tried to install it using apt-get, but I got an error about md5sum mismatch:

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
...
Download done.
md5sum mismatch install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
The Flash plugin is NOT installed.

I tried the solution explained here and it did work. Notice that I didn't use nspluginwrapper because I couldn't find it in apt-get. I launched Firefox and tried to watch videos on YouTube. The video seemed to load, but the moment I tried to play it, Firefox crashed. I made several tests, but the behavior was always the same.

Then, I tried to uninstall (purge) flashplugin-nonfree and install the Flash plugin using the Firefox pop-up assistant. The installation worked again, but the crashes remained.

I'm using:

• Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10
• Firefox 2.0.0.11
• Flash Player 9
• flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12

I think that the problem is this (quessing):

flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12 is trying to install flashplugin r48 but Adobe is offering r115 => md5sum mismatch.

About flashplugin-nonfree
flashplugin-nonfree is program which:
- makes nessessary folders
- dowloads install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz from Adobe with wget.
- unpacks install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
- launch Adobe installer script (?)


You could:

- download (r115) install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz from Adobe.

Adobe is offering Version: 9,0,115,0 of the flash plugin. lmilano told that this will break Konqueror.

About flash plugin

Flash plugin is just libflashplayer.so file, placed so that Firefox/Semonkey/Konqueror can find it.

nspluginwrapper is an Open Source compatibility plugin for Netscape 4 (NPAPI) plugins. That is, it enables you to use plugins on platforms they were not built for. For example, you can use the Adobe Flash plugin on Linux/x86_64, NetBSD and FreeBSD platforms.

Yeah, I had the same 'apt-get' mismatch and went searching for the plugin
folder.
Since it did download - I got it out of the /var/cache, copied--pasted, into
plugin folder -- and it was all good.

And its good to get a descriptive helping hand -- as from Rog131 !
