(solved) Adept not working after attempting to install KDE4 apps

All I get when I try to start Adept now is this:

"Another Process is using the packaging system database (probably some other Adept application or apt-get or aptitude).

Would you like to attempt to resolve this problem? No will enter read-only mode and cancel to quit and resolve this issue yourself."

When I hit Yes, Adept crashes.
There are none of the mentioned programs running and I have restarted and still no joy.
    Any ideas?

Edit: Solved: ran dpkg --configure -a
Compy: AMD 64x2 6000+, Crosshair mobo, Enermax PSU, 4GB DDR2 800, 8800GTS 640mb, 24in cheapy monitor + secondary 17in, aprrx 1.6tb storage (internal) + external DVDrw, lots of nice big blue shiny quiet fans.

    Open a console and type:
    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
    sudo apt-get autoclean
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Keep those commands handy. When Adept reports errors, these generally will fix the problem.
