gutsy wants to update to version 4 packages?

Auto update has popped up with a large list of updated kde packages to download. I am a bit suspicious why there are so many updates just after kde 4 is released. I haven't added kde 4 repos or tried to install it. Are this batch of updates safe or are they kde4 packagees? I couldn't see any new programs so it isn't trying a full update to 4.

I have only just got round to wiping my fiesty install and installing gutsy a couple of days ago so I don't want to mess it up so soon

I'm not sure what all they included, but the updates are for KDE 3.5.8 (you'll notice the version is something like "4: 3.5.8", not "4.0")

Are you sure of that? I chose not to upgrade the indicated packages:

as I believed they were KDE4 upgraded packages. All had version/release numbers of 4*

I think so:

should we install all of the updates after putting that line in sources.list?
as u said .. they have version 4:3*

I should have seen this earlier. I just updates mine this morning and nothing has changed except i can use some KDE4 stuff in 3.5.8 which is not bad with me. Dolphin and Konqueror stand out a lot.

It is safe to do

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

You will get two sessions. One for KDE and one for KDE4, so you can choose.

I did that and it tells me that there are no packages to install. Is there a certain repo I need to enable. I have been waiting a long time for this to finally get released I am sure like everyone else.

Just checked in more detail and all the packages I checked that were flagged for update were from version '4.3.5.8-0ubuntu2' to '4.3.5.8-0ubuntu2.1'. So it looks like it is just updated 3.5.8 packages but it seems a bit of a coincidence that there is this large update just after kde4 was released. Perhaps it just increases compatibility or something if people install both versions?

i did the modifications as told in the kubuntu page, to sources.list
I am trying to install kde4 through adept and it is really really slow
anything that i can do?

Be patient. With so many people pulling KDE4, I'm sure that the servers are being over worked!
