Compiz - is this normal?

Hello,

I have an Nvidia 8600 GT graphics card. I installed Compiz and when I boot up, I get the desktop and then the screen blanks completely for about 5 seconds then comes back. Is this a normal behavior for Compiz ? Before I started running Compiz, this never happened.

Yes, I've seen this behavior. In the configuration settings, you can have it set to display a startup splash for Compiz. Might help ease the mind on what is going on when Compiz starts. (Compiz Advanced Desktop Settings under Extras and make sure the Splash is ticked).

Ya thats completely normal , when the compiz gets initialised the screen appears blank.To add more eyecandy at this point use splash animation as said by moonrise.

Thanks, guys. I will try this when I get home tonight. Another odd thing that happens intermittently is when the desktop comes back after Compiz starts, 2 or 3 of the system tray icons appear on the desktop. Can't even close them. I assume this is just a bug with Compiz, though. At least that's what I hope.

It is. Some times you can expand that window and hit the minimize button and it will go down to the Task Bar. I have also noticed with adept_notifier when it does that you can start Kopete and it will go back in the System Tray.

It was driving me nuts the way it did that and I just happen to start Compiz before Kopete one day. Tried it again several times and it was consistent.
