    KMyMoney not importing qif's correctly

I'm having trouble getting Kmymoney to import my mutual fund qif correctly. I exported the qif file from MS Money. I can import the qif but the information in not being placed in the proper location within KMyMoney. It appears to be placing the dollar amount of my mutual fund purchase in the place for the number of "shares". The "price per share" is always displayed as "hfx 1.0000" in the register after importing. In the "Value" column I'm getting the following "sshfx 0.00". The "sshfx" part appears to be the mutual fund symbol.

The reinvested dividends are just showing up as "buys" as well. The only thing that seems to be importing correctly is the date. I tried to create a new qif profile and using Invst for the "Type field text" but that didn't help.

Is there anyone here that uses KMyMoney that has been successful in getting it to import mutual fund information correctly?

    I'm using version 0.8.7

Any help is appreciated. I'd really like to be able to use this program without having to manually add all my investment info.

Re: KMyMoney not importing qif's correctly

In the end, moving to Quicken didn't gain me anything, and I found Moneydance to be less intuitive, and lacking some obscure features that are important to me. SO after all this effort I was forced to admit, I was staying with MS Money.

BUT... not with Windows. My solution, which has proven to be quite elegant, is to run a copy of the Windows XP O/S on a virtual machine (VMWare Server automatically starts when I boot my FF Ubuntu). Going to MS Money is as easy as alt-tabbing or switching workspaces, and it actually runs faster under the Virtual Machine then it did when I booted a machine to it! This solves the "dual boot" problem and I've noticed no performance degradation either in Ubuntu or in the virtual machine (note: make sure to install VMtools in XP after you've installed it into the virtual machine).

I might also suggest asking on one of the kmymoney2 mailing lists, either the user or the devel list, as the main developers are always very responsive to this sort of problem, and are extremely helpful, especially with data they haven't seen or used themselves.

I did place a message on their mailing list. Hopefully they will be able to respond. In the mean time, I'm trying out Gnucash. The qif importer for it seem much better.
