    Gutsy errors: after removing dolphin

    Hi all,
Disliking dolphin, I ran 'sudo dpkg -P dolphin'.
After which I continued to receive many 'Sorry' error messages:
    Code:
    Could not find mime type
    application/octet-stream
This began after rebooting- after running that command, which showed before the panel and other desktop icons loaded. They did not load till after clicking 'OK' on the message, as do other instances- loading after 'OK' is clicked.
The message pops up with Gwenview, Kate, Konqueror, etc..

Other previously saved files [txt] on the desktop, ask the 'Open with:' question, as if Konqueror hasn't yet associated itself with these 'dolphin' made files.

My searching brought me to http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3087520.0, which any resulting errors were not included.
    Thanks in advance...

Hmm. I'd suggest reinstalling Dolphin. Yes, it has problems with changing users files to root ownership (in certain situations), but, you can change Konqueror to be the default file manager in Gutsy. With Konqueror running, click Settings | Configure Konqueror | File Associations | inode | system_directory | Application Preference Order click on Konqueror and click the Move Up button to put it at the top of the list. Click Apply and your done. Konqueror is now the default file manager.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Yep ~ I hear that! ...Hummm is right.
From what google has brought me, this gots to be so "something" I did.
And for me this means fresh install, over this weekend.
Load it in and yank dolphin out--first thing...thru Adept of course.

If it repeats the error, the system is fresh and logs unaffected by custom tweaks.
And if all goes well...--I'll just grin and add it here to.

Something nagging my memory tho, some years back--messing with Xandros' file manager--I think also....hummmm. ? ?

The way i found to work well straight after a re-install was to make Konqeror the default file manager, log out and then in again, and then un-install Dolphin.
I don't know if it's important to do it this way, but it worked on this install.

Yes ~ removing dolphin asap thru Adept worked fine.
I did make Konqueror default file manager--before dolphin un-install,
          but did not log out.
Nice to be rid of annoying error messages!
          Thanks for input !

              T'was the first thing I noticed back -- when I tried 4.0,
and that all just lasted a day.

i suggest xfe http://roland65.free.fr/xfe/ some things such as system:/ and trash:/ won't work or try a diff. file-manager. u need another file-manager and ur error in the end basically says it can't find the dolphin files, etc.. even in mimitypes 'cause u un-installed it.
