    Error installing updates and softwares

I did a clean Kubuntu installation, after which when I was installing updates I got an error. I ignored this. Then when I was installing mplayer I again got hte same error.

    Error
Could not commit changes. Adept Manager
There was an error commiting changes. Posibally there was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break package
I faced the same problem last time I tried installing kubuntu

    Any suggestions.........

After installation, did you delete or deactivate the cd-rom repository in Adept Manger (Adept Manager | Adept | Manage Repositories | Third-Party Software) ? This action is necessary to avoid conflicts when running Adept Manager.

      nope.

when the first time I booted into the newly installed kubuntu, the very first thing I did was clicking the update icon on the notification area.

It downloaded all the updated, started installing and towards the end it gave me this error.

Can it be because of bad sector in hard disk. cause when I was installing debian few days back I was getting error for invalid swap partition.

Open a console window, and try these, one at a time:
        Code:
        sudo dpkg --configure -a
        Code:
        sudo apt-get autoclean
        Code:
        sudo apt-get update
        Code:
        sudo apt-get install

Well it seems like every thing is ok, I mean updates were installed succesfully, mplayer was also installed. Then why am I getting these errors.

here is the output from those commands

          Code:
          nik@REX:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a

            Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
            N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.

The output you posted is 'normal' for the commands you ran. The commands 'fix' the initial problem you had. You should now be 'good to go.' Merry Christmas!

That is y I love kubuntu.

To figure out the same thing in FreeBSD or DesktopBSD it would have taken atleast one day(if Im really very luckey).

              thanks a lot.
              Problem seems to be solved.

I would be very thankful, if you can tell me in brief, what went wrong cause it seems to get wrong every time I install Kubuntu Gutsey.

Can't tell you why, but it seems it just does. :P Just remember the commands you ran, so that if you get an Adept error again, you will know what to run to fix it.
