resolution problem : (

i couldn't access to debian forums(server busy). I have just installed debian as we hav a project on debian. After i hav installed debian , the screen resolution is is very less. So i went to desktop>administration>screen resolution.

the drop down list has only 680*480. there are no more options. fore me 1280*1024 suits best. What to do ?? is there any solution ?? or shall i reinstall debian again??

Edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file as root so your "Screen" section looks something like this:

Then, save and close everything, and restart X.org with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.

You'll notice the default depth is "24", and the 1st option under each subsection is "1280x1024". That should tell your system to boot into "1280x1024", but if it isn't, you're experiencing a bug (I've been there before). Try deleting all the unneeded options so it looks like:

Just back the file up first with the command

sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak

That way, if anything goes wrong, you can use the command

sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak /etc/X11/xorg.conf

to restore it to the way it was.

Edit: Oh, and then restart X.org again to see if your changes have taken effect.
