Help with lirc

Can anyone help me configuring lirc on my Kubuntu 7.10 pc. I installed it correctly following the guides, and it works with some default settings, like volume up/down, play/pause etc, but I can't override those settings. I tried the .lircrc file configured manually for my remote, I tried irkick also, but nothing happens, the lirc daemon follows his own specific settings. Where is this file? How can I make my .lircrc file work corectly!

There are probably two .lircrc. Make sure you are editing the one under your home directory.
