Ok so have been dealing with this now for a week, have looked into it ALOT, searched and searched through kubuntu and ubuntu forums and I keep coming up with nothing.
I've been working fine with Feisty, I tried to do a clean install instead of an upgrade so downloaded the new installation cd for 7.10 and tried to install it. The first couple of CDs I downloaded were unbootable images so waited a few days and downloaded a newer version. This was bootable and in fact installed everything fine.
At the end of the installation it tries to retrieve security updates which it can't get, then when you boot into it you open up add remove programs and you get a list of the software which is installed and all the stuff which isn't installed is greyed out so you couldn't select it to install if you wanted to.
Go over to the package manager instead of add remove programs (Which I've always prefered anyway tbh) and you have a similar problem, if you tell it to fetch updates it just sits there waiting for headers, if you cancel that it tells me there is a distro upgrade to 7.10 Gutsy, why is their a distro upgrade to 7.10 gutsy when I downloaded the CD for Gutsy and it looks totally different to Feisty so I know I'm using the right one? Anyway you tell it to upgrade and it either gets stuck downloading files and just hangs or on the one occassion it downloaded everything it started installing these files and then just crapped out leaving me with a completely unuseable system.
Someone help me please because I love using ubuntu for it's simplicity of use and time saving benefits over Gentoo and right now Kubuntu isn't saving me any time. I've tried disabling IPV6 and that doesn't seem to be doing any good. I did have a very similar problem (Although not exactly the same) when I installed Ubuntu 7.10 instead of Kubuntu 7.10 but I prefer Kubuntu.
