    Problem with Amarok

    Hi,
    I have problem with Amarok, when I start Kubuntu, then Amarok and I try to play any MP3 song, Amarok hangs and I have to kill it, but when I start it again everithing is o.k.
    This happens only on first start of Amarok after starting Kubuntu!
    I tried to uninstall Amarok and install it again with Adept, but problem is still there...
    Help!

      Re: Problem with Amarok

      Try running amarok from a console, see what (if anything) it outputs.
      I've had it do strange things before, but not what you're describing.
      I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Hardware is Dell Precision 420, 2x 800 MHz PIII, 512 MB RDRAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 128 MB AGP graphics, 18GB SCSI and 500GB IDE HDDs, DVD burner, Hauppage TV card.

        Re: Problem with Amarok

        This is all I get when I start it from console, after booting up system:
        Code:
        :~$ amarokapp
        kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::insertKAccel( kaccel = 0x81e1cc0 ): KAccel object already contains an action name "play_pause"
        QLayout "unnamed" added to QVBox "unnamed", which already has a layout
        kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::insertKAccel( kaccel = 0x81e1cc0 ): KAccel object already contains an action name "play_pause"
        QLayout: Adding KToolBar/mainToolBar (child of QVBox/unnamed) to layout for PlaylistWindow/PlaylistWindow
        QObject::connect: Incompatible sender/receiver arguments
            StarManager::ratingsColorsChanged() --> ContextBrowser::ratingOrScoreOrLabelsChanged(const QString&)
        STARTUP
        Killed
        Problem is when I pres play or doubleclick MP3 file it hangs, but there is no output in console and I have to kill it.

        Here is what happens after normal start and quit, when all works:
        Code:
        :~$ amarokapp
        kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::insertKAccel( kaccel = 0x809a3e8 ): KAccel object already contains an action name "play_pause"
        QLayout "unnamed" added to QVBox "unnamed", which already has a layout
        kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::insertKAccel( kaccel = 0x809a3e8 ): KAccel object already contains an action name "play_pause"
        QLayout: Adding KToolBar/mainToolBar (child of QVBox/unnamed) to layout for PlaylistWindow/PlaylistWindow
        QObject::connect: Incompatible sender/receiver arguments
            StarManager::ratingsColorsChanged() --> ContextBrowser::ratingOrScoreOrLabelsChanged(const QString&)
        STARTUP
        QObject::disconnect: Unexpected null parameter
        QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::activePartChanged( KParts::Part * ) to KHTMLPart::slotActiveFrameChanged( KParts::Part * )
        And when I first played net radio station it worked, and than I tried to play MP3 and it hanged, normally on next Amarok start everything worked well...

        I can see there is some problem with MP3 support, but I don't know what...

        (Amarok 1.4.7 , KDE 3.5.8 , Kubuntu 7.10 , everything updated)

          I have exactly the same problem. Noticed only in the last few days so i suspect must have been caused by an adept flagged required upgrade. Output from konsole similar to the one you posted.

            It looks like we have to wait this bug to bi widespread, and then somebody to decide to fix it?!

              Well, that's definitely strange..

              Have been updating with all the updates on mine, but nothing of that sort turns up..Amarok is one of my favourite softwares, ever..

              searched for it, and couldn't find many people with that error, looks like you're going to have to wait :|

                  You seem, as of your last post, to have 'resolved' your problem. Please go back to your initial post and click the modify button and add SOLVED to the subject line.

                  Also, why are you running Amarok from the command line, and not from the K Menu

                    Re: Problem with Amarok (SOLVED)

                    Normally i run Amarok from the quick launch menu but because of the problem i had used the terminal to get the error messages.

                      I am sorry for not changing status of this post to resolved, I didn't know thats the rule...

                      ...but, the problem is back with new Amarok 1.4.8 !

                      Waiting for new upgrade...

                        Re: Problem with Amarok

                        It was working flawlessly for me until about a day or two (or three?) ago, and now I am having the exact same problem, right down to the precise error messages.

                        (amarok2-preview from the KDE4 PPA reacts the same way, for the record, but that could be entirely unrelated)
