Re: System Settings Administrator mode broken

I've had this recently on Gutsy and managed to work around it by doing 'gksudo kcontrol' - now the Administrator Mode button works, even after rebooting. The result of that command was something about 'building /root/.ICEauthority' and 'DCOPserver - cleaning up dead connections', which seems significant.

Have a look at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=133582 - there are some links to open bugs, and it would be good if there was a sticky post both here and on Ubuntuforums to help work around this.

If people can reproduce this and work on the bug postings, maybe it can be fixed on Gutsy and Hardy - it makes life hard for those who aren't KDE experts as it's not that obvious how to work around it. I almost gave up and did a fresh install rather than upgrade...
