Controlling screen on which new windows open

Hi. My Kubuntu desktop spans two monitors (using TwinView). On Feisty, whenever I launched an application, new windows would open on whichever screen the mouse pointer was on. That was nice. But after upgrading to Gutsy, all new windows open on the first screen no matter what. Is there a way to configure this so I can get the old behavior back? Or at least control which screen each application opens on?

I'm running Compiz now, if that makes any difference. Before the upgrade, I was running Beryl. Thanks.

make sure the option for Xinerama in your xorg.conf is set to "1" instead of "0" and in your Compiz settings under the windows management options, change your placement options till you find something you like

At present I run it with smart placement, so it will either place them at last known location or next to the last opened window, works fine for me , but there are many placement options to fiddle with

Thanks for the pointers. Unfortunately, setting Xinerama to "1" kind of hosed my display so I turned it off again, but I will play with the Compiz settings.

hmm, not sure why xinerama would cack up your display :S Sorry about that, works great for me, I have xwinwrap run things over both as desktop no probs.

Good luck with finding a setting that suits
