Root folder Icons on my desktop

Kubuntu 7.10 gutsy gibbon kde 3.5.8

Booted system this morning. The root folders were on my desktop.
Using a terminal, I could not rm -rf any folder icons.
Going to display controls I can turn off show icons & they go away.
Turn it back on & there back. Off, reboot, on........>;(

They do not show in konqueror 3.5.8 or dolphin.
I downloaded a file to desktop, & it does not show on the desktop, but it does show in konqueror.??

I can not drag anything to the desktop ,copy or delete.
Desktop has gone root on me.
Is there a configuration file or something that might have been edited wrong?

Check kcontrol>SystemAdministration>Paths that Desktop path is set correctly.

Re: Root folder Icons on my desktop

I'm having the same problem. My Root folders show on my desktop, and desktop is accessible only through Konqeror or Dolphin. I tried changing the path, and even logged out and back in again, but it still shows Root on my desktop.

      kcontrol Desktop path: /home/mike/Desktop/

      It was set to /
so something screwed that up but changing the path didn't fix it yet. Any suggestions?
